Campbell: Poetry, Music & Thoughts

"I love to turn you on…."

Well, if you’ve come this far you may well be looking for a clue as to what things switch me on - including poetry, music, lyrics, movies and history.

Follow the links and you can see where I’m at (perhaps)

In the poetry and music area it's usually nothing too elaborate, nice & simple – harmony, balance, thoughts, feelings & capacity to convey emotion – a whole host of things, and the underlying knowledge that inside us we all have potential to love. I remember once saying to a girl "I think CSN&Y rock". Well they do, but not in the conventional interpretation, but in the harmony, the feeling, the emotion, the capacity to invite you in and listen, to enjoy their melody & riff… Try listening to "Lady of the Island" and see if it doesn't swallow you up - sheer beauty of a moment with a lady epitomized in song, encapsulated within a lyric, sung in haunting balance…

This is dedicated "to all the girls I’ve loved before" – corny, huh! Some about each of them, some for each of them, some about me, some for me, and some for my kids who light up my life and have been a constant for me whenever I needed some flattening out or lifting up…

But those ladies, well they know who they are, and my heart is with them still…….

My kids tend to think I'm pretty daft with it all, as do my mates, but it is simply a part of my fabric, a part of my weave, and in a sense I'm inviting you inside my head.

Remember before you praise, before you ridicule - each man has his story to tell - and whatever that story it usually is well worth a listen.
